#NationalVietnamWarVeteransDay

My father was a dog handler in the Vietnam War. He and his war dog, Tiger, worked bravely side by side, serving our country in the most controversial war of our time. Years later, at the young age of 39, my dad paid the ultimate price... 1/
He passed away from multiple myeloma due to Agent Orange exposure. The chemical our government used to flush out the enemy killed many of our Vietnam vets long after they came home, which is why the number of casualties caused by our involvement can never really be tallied. 2/
You won’t find my father’s name or the names of soldiers like him on the Vietnam Wall memorial in DC, but their sacrifice isn’t any less than those who lost their lives in battle. 3/
They were blessed with more time—I’ll always be grateful for the 10 years I was given with my dad—but in the end, the war took them just the same. 4/
So thank you to all the Vietnam veterans and their families for your service and sacrifice, and to all the war dogs who protected and served alongside men like my dad. You are not forgotten. ❤️💙🗽 5/5
