Using the free plus shipping method in order to collect data faster when you are just starting out is the worst idea ever.

Let me explain why ⬇️

Someone told me this the other day and I was shocked that they expected this to work.

Free plus shipping in general is a very hard strategy to turn profitable (one main exception, I'll talk about it at the end).

Your room for profitability is very tight.

When you are advertising a free plus shipping product, do you understand the type of customer you are attracting to your store?

No? Let me tell you.

Cheapskates.

They are only interested in your product because it's "free".

Even if you include that they have to pay for shipping, most users won't notice that until they get to the checkout page or won't expect the shipping to be that expensive.

That's why there is always such a high drop off rate from add to cart to initiate checkout.

But, now your pixel has a ton of data on people who are only interested in your product because they think it's "free".

So why would creating a lookalike off of that data be a good idea?

FB would just find more people like that and you would continue to break even, at best.

Using the free plus model is just not a good way to try and get data faster in order to create lookalikes sooner.

Please do not do this, you are much better off having a traditional set up and waiting a little longer to gather that data.

Also, I don't want you to think that it's impossible to make free plus shipping work.

I just don't want people using it for the sole purpose of acquiring data quicker.

Free plus shipping is still a difficult model but including upsells is a must if you want to make it work.

Increasing your average order value will make the differences between making it work or not.

I was actually talking about this with @RyanRichDD who has been crushing it with free plus shipping because he has upsells in place.
