May wants to speak to Jeremy Corbyn to find a consensus deal based on current withdrawal agreement, and will ask for an extension to get it through.

House could vote on a number of options for the future relationship.

The red lines likely to be rubbed out.

Prime Minister: need short further extension of membership.
May: need to know what the extension is for. Wants to sit down with Corbyn. Must involve current withdrawal agreement.
May: aim to jointly agree on future relationship. If they can't, would put options to the Commons. Government would follow the results. Aim to leave by May 22nd.

This is about new leadership for phase 2.
Seems to me that PM is making it conditional on having to get through phase 1 that her general message it is
price she is prepared to pay and that the message of her team is that “this is national interest above personal interest”

1. Following two successive votes rejecting the draft withdrawal agreement (DWA) (432-202 against and 391-242 against) and this evening’s vote (321-278) to reject any no deal Brexit, here is a personal reflection/contribution on possible extensions of time under Article 50 TEU.
2. If the existing DWA ever ends up being approved, it is near-certain that the UK will have to seek a short (2-3 month) extension, in order to put in place the necessary measures to implement that agreement.
3. Since there would be obvious mutual interest in granting such an extension, it is unlikely that obtaining it in that context would present major difficulty.

Diplomatic sources: the #Corbyn visit to Brussels was a waste of time because he wants a) a general election b) a new deal featuring a customs union for which there is no time and he does not have a majority in the Commons. The visit left EU officials shaking their heads
The May visit also left EU officials shaking their heads in disbelief. May spoke of progress, Juncker was pessimistic that a no deal #Brexit could be averted. EU officials do not believe the WA will get a majority in the Commons
Work continues in Brussels on an additional document on #Brexit to be appended to the Withdrawal Agreement. It would have to be approved by EU leaders at their next summit on 21 March. It will then be given to UK. However it will not contradict the WA ie will not satisfy ERG
