Let’s try to get to the bottom of this based on the article itself (thread)
1) It was a plan drawn up by the Border Force, dismissed by HMRC as unworkable. That doesn’t sound like the best of plans, but let’s look at the other information in there.
2) The article says that it is based on Swiss technology. Awesome. Anything Swiss gives us confidence. Except that Switzerland operates a border with facilities and checks. Physical checks. Physical border posts trucks pass through (and not just “electronic verification”)

I think this deserves a comment. Northern Ireland’s politics is complex. I had the great fortune to meet young and smart DUP politicians like @JBuckleyMLA at a conference. What sets them apart: they want to discuss for the benefit of the future of the constituents (thread)
@JBuckleyMLA Much to my surprise - and even though the conference was in Ireland - there was noone from SF. Not engaging, not talking is a major part of why the perception of NI in the UK is often wrong.
@JBuckleyMLA So as much as you might hate SF. As much as you might hate the DUP. If we engage and talk, if we sit down together and try to tackle actual problems on the ground - we might just make little baby steps towards finding solutions.

Yes yes, euros, pounds and I don’t know whether the UK number in the Spectator includes IMF funds, the EU part in the second article doesn’t seem to. You can fiddle with the numbers a bit.
