Feds say that a computer engineer from Maryland spent two years immersing himself in ISIS ideology before one day he walked off his job, stole a truck and started driving around the Washington area looking for people he could kill.
He didn't have much of a plan. He drove to Dulles airport, but the crowds were too small. Then he tried unsuccessfully for two hours to get through security within the airport.
So he drove to National Harbor, a touristy spot in the Maryland suburbs. But the crowds were too thin, so he waited around more and broke into a boat to spend the night and was arrested the next morning.
He told the FBI he was planning to run people down with the truck, that he had no escape plan and wanted to die. "I was just going to keep driving and driving and driving. I wasn't going to stop."
Here's the document. Right now he's only charged with transportation of a stolen vehicle, but the government's detention motion details a guy who one day decides to leave his job and kill people for ISIS. documentcloud.org/documents/5798…
Imagine how differently this could have played out if the defendant had done even a few minutes of research before he set out to kill people.
Story: Rondell Henry knew nothing about guns or explosives, federal prosecutors say, but he knew how to drive and that was enough.

Terror attacks like the one the FBI thwarted in Maryland last month are among the most security threats to prevent.
