Within a complex & unpredictable environment, that raises the risk to civilian aircraft
significantly.

To me, this looks like messaging more than a truly dramatic change in reality/dynamics:

- S-300s already deployed in #Syria.

- #Israel (& US) uses encrypted radar/GPS; less vulnerable to counter-measures

- #Russia has been “jamming” for 2+ yrs.

A group calling itself "The Committee of Peaceful movement in #Raqqa" called for a peaceful uprising against the Kurdish-led #SDF. The statement demanded the Syrian Democratic Forces to leave the city and hand it over to its people.
Clashes have broken out between the “#Raqqa Revolutionary Brigade” and the Kurdish-led #SDF in the northern suburbs of Raqqa, northern #Syria.
The Kurdish #YPG component of the #SDF have besieged the HQ of the #FSA “Raqqa Revolutionaries Brigade” and clashed with them at several points. They have called upon the people of #Raqqa to go out and demonstrate immediately against these militias and their actions.

This week in 1965, the US began 'Operation Rolling Thunder', a massive bombing campaign on North Vietnam, which killed 180,000 civilians & which saw the US drop more bombs in 3 years than it used during the entire Pacific Theater of World War II.
The US claimed the bombing campaign was precise; however, eyewitness reports showed the US bombed hospitals, schools, Buddhist pagodas, farms, fishing boats, & sanitariums. After the bombing, North Vietnam’s 3rd largest city, resembled "the city of a vanished civilization.”
US Pilot Randy Floyd described the bombing campaign, “virtually anywhere in North Vietnam was a free drop zone. We even bombed the cattle because we were told that anything out there was North Vietnamese controlled and we figured that was part of the food supply.”
