X : Is mapping in HBR?
Me : No.
X : Have you thought of writing an article for HBR?
Me : Do you mean do I have occassional nightmares where I awake screaming?
X : You seem somewhat dismissive of management consultants.
Me : Really? Was it the "rebel against the consultants that enslave us" in the map of mapping - medium.com/wardleymaps/fi… - that gave it away?
X : What do you think about the concept of humble leadership?
Me : Seems reasonable. I think many modern leaders have an awful lot to be humble about.
X : Have you looked into Cynefin?
Me : Yes. I think it's an excellent way of looking at things and making a decision, I recommend people read @snowded
X : The role of leadership is not to set the strategy but to create the conditions for the right strategy to emerge.
Me : That's probably some of the finest goobledegook and shirking of responsibility / accountability that has ever been written. Needs more earlobes though.
X : Ealobes?
Me : Yes - hbr.org/2011/11/how-ea… - my goto article for everytime I think the field of leadership is getting ahead of itself.
X : What about Zuckerberg?
Me : What about Platen and Munters?
X : Who?
Me : Created modern refrigeration. Did more to impact the world than Facebook can ever hope or dare to dream to accomplish.
... we live in an era of paucity when it comes to great leaders. The men and women of today are a pale shadow of past greats. These things come in ebbs and flows. Most will be forgotten. The true greats that stand the test of time are very rare.
X : You are so mean, I'm surpised anyone employs you.
Me : There are many who wouldn't and some that despise me. I had one daft sod who followed all my recommendations but said they would never work with me again. Fortunately, there are enough that can cope with frank honesty.
... it's because of the latter that I can be myself, for that I am grateful. We do not yet live in a corporate world where we cannot comment on the lack of attire the executive might have.
