To correct a misconception: #Nigeria has not yet qualified for the #FIFAU17WC. Still need a point from the final game. #U17AFCON
There is a scenario in which 3 teams can still finish on 6 pts, in which case results against Tanzania will be discounted. Only the results in matches between the three tied teams will be used.

*If* that scenario plays out (Nigeria lose to Uganda, Angola beat Tanzania)...
...then even on the first decider, all 3 teams will have 3 pts from matches against each other. Goal difference between the 3 teams will then come into effect, and since Nigeria (hypothetically) would've lost to Uganda...
...theirs will be no greater than 0 (assuming a loss by a single goal), Angola's will be at least 0 (since, in this scenario, they win their last game), and Uganda's will be at least 0 (since, in this scenario, they beat Nigeria).

If that seems far-fetched, allow me to simplify. If Nigeria loses 2-0 (or 3-1 or 4-2) to Uganda, and Angola beats Tanzania, Nigeria will not be going to the #FIFAU17WC.

All 3 teams would finish on six points, and would have three points in the head-to-head mini-league, but...

Uganda: +1
Angola: 0
Nigeria: -1

So Nigeria would finish third in the group.

Made a correction to this thread (the math is quite complicated, and @Twitter still won't let us edit tweets), but the principle remains the same: Nigeria is not through to the #FIFAU17WC just yet.

Wrote this about two weeks ago. Since then, the call for Leon Balogun to be dropped and Kenneth Omeruo to be plugged in has only intensified.

Will try to address why (I think) this is not a good idea in the short term.
The idea seems to be that a pairing of Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong would be more deserving, as both are seeing regular minutes at Leganes and Udinese, respectively.

Important to note the debate is about form, rather than ability.
While football is more universal than ever, certain positional truisms hold. For instance - and relevant to this thread - is the fact that the familiarity fostered by partnerships is a greater consideration in defence than anything else.

Especially so in international football.

#Nigeria’s GDP slowly picking up since the oil price crash of 2014-16 - up 1.9% in 2018 (0.8% the year before). And last quarter of 2018 was best in years at 2.4% - but not fast enough to deal with Unemployment
If we look at Nigeria's economy and compare it to other oil exporters - it's better than some (Eq Guinea in Africa, Venezuela in Latam), and worse than others. But none have done great since the oil price fall began in 2014
We think Nigeria will do better in the next four years - as we said in this thread - because oil prices won't repeat the fall of 2014-16 (nominally they can't fall $80 from peak to trough). But policy choices will determine *how* much better Nigeria does

s. 215(1)(a) of #Nigeria's constitution says: an Inspector-General of @PoliceNG shall be appointed by the President on advice of the Police Council from among serving members of the NPF.

IGP Idris can't be lawfully extended cos he's no longer serving & Police Council hasn't met.
s. 216(2) of the Constitution is v clear: "Before making any appointment to the office of the Inspector-General of @PoliceNG or removing him from office the President shall consult the Nigeria Police Council." A meeting of the Police Council is mandatory pre-condition.

#Nigeria the Budget Office put out 2017 fiscal accounts which showed that FY deficit came in at NGN3.8tr (3.3% of nom GDP) and above the 3% fiscal responsibility act. As usual revenues missed thanks to usual over-optimistic non-oil rev assumptions and higher JV payments
But interestingly, capex spending came in a record NGN1.44tr (1.3% of GDP and around 66% of target) with overall budget execution at 87% suggesting some credibility in implementation despite the costs driven by higher drawdowns by Works, Power and Housing
Debt service/revenues printed at 69% (adjusted for sinking fund payments to retire debt 60%) but up from the 47% in 2016. Overall debt tracked higher due to increasingly more expensive borrowings over the last three years - a derivative of CBN tightening.

On the evening of 7/9/18, fighters loyal to ISWAP raised their flag over #Gudumbali, HQ of Guzamala LGA, #Borno.

Soldiers and policemen in town abandoned their positions, and in some instances discarded their uniforms as they sought to escape the advancing terrorists.
What was striking was the speed with which @HQNigerianArmy lost control of Gudumbali, a strategic town that lies on the road between Damasak and Monguno.

This attack was less than a week after 145 Battalion was attacked in Zari, 51km away, leading to the loss of 48 soldiers.
Belatedly, @HQNigerianArmy launched a counter-attack to retake #Gudumbali on the evening of 8/9/18.

As of the time of writing this report, the operation is still ongoing with fighting having spread as far as Kukawa, 43km away.
