Rarely have I been so excited to have one of my tweets “liked.” I’m teaching about Curt Flood this week & I’m hoping that his genius & bravery will be more widely appreciated. He connected the civil rights & labor movements in important ways. Thanks ⁦@curtfloodjr⁩.
When he brought the case that became Flood v. Kuhn, he said, for example, ""I think the change in black consciousness in recent years has made me more sensitive to injustice in every area of my life."
Here's a link to an excellent recent article by the great @WCRhoden arguing that Curt Flood should be honored by Major League Baseball. I couldn't agree more.

"Catfish" Hunter signed his big free agent contract in 1974: “I was probably the first player who broke it open for other players to be paid what they're worth.” Even though he lost his Supreme Court case, I would argue that Flood should get the lion's share of the credit.
The point is that white players, like Hunter, Dave NcNally, and Andy Messersmith sometimes received disproportionate honors and Curt Flood, who sacrificed his career for this cause, is, in my opinion, not recognized enough as a labor and civil rights pioneer.
