John Minford, #SunTzu 5: 11 "A rushing torrent carries boulders on its flood; such is the energy of its momentum."

Although this verse looks familiar to us, it simply bristles with meaning and new thinking. The visual analogy is awesome in its power, but that's the familiar part. The new thinking is in the term "energy." We will come to truly know this term, completely.

What is an army? It is a group of armed warriors, guided by the decisions of a general, coordinated by a chain of command and by clear communications, signals, flags, gongs, indicating advance, retreat, flank, etc. An army in motion is a rushing torrent of human energy.

Drop a pebble in still water, and it sinks beneath the surface without altering anything, and after just a few tiny ripples, soon gone, there is no momentum, no flood. A great boulder falling from a mountain height into a lake below will have greater impact, but still no flood.

A steady gentle rain spills out of the Heavens and falls to Earth. The lakes, rivers and streams collect its overflow and begin to rise. The rain continues. Banks overflow. Dams break. Floods pour. In motion, their energy is vast beyond measure. Great boulders carry in the flow.

What does angry water flowing have? Momentum. Energy. A type of unstoppable force that nothing can resist. I don't know if the Chinese have an ancient flood myth like Noah in Genesis, but I imagine they'd love Noah. He builds a boat to ride out the storm. How passive.

Don't resist the flow, its energy in momentum is so vast it will overwhelm you. Just build a boat, and bounce along with the rolling boulders, resisting nothing, effortless until you land again, somewhere not of your choosing. When the flood comes, it comes. Go with it.

Yet Master Sun is not teaching us, right now, how to go with the flow. He is teaching to be the flow. If we must wage battle, then an unstoppable flood is what we must be. Far better to threaten to release the flood so that the enemy surrenders without fighting.

But Master Sun knows that energy must be released. Battle must occur, and when it does, the wise warrior mounts up his energy precisely as the flood's irresistible momentum. Would you save America, Master Sun asks us across the millennia? Then you must be the flood.

Can we? Can we save America? Perhaps not. Perhaps we're too late. Perhaps it is socialism that has mounted up flood force in its energy in motion. Perhaps socialism is the flood and we the resistant boulders caught up and carried in the energy of their momentum.

Imagine that, we must. Lincoln imposed an income tax upon us, first time, later struck down as unconstitutional. Yet, by 1913 the progressive flood was so victorious that our IRS was born. How utterly unAmerican a thing it is. Yet a progressive taxation is now dogma in America.

Can you be the flood? This is, perhaps, Master Sun's greatest question. How do we return America to its foundation of greatness? Can we? We succeeded in 2016 yet failed in 2018. Well, we didn't completely fail, we added to our strength in the Senate.

What is the flood, Master Sun's flood, for America today? The battle lines are clear, cleanly drawn. The lines are socialism vs free-market capitalism. If the socialists win, we will lose America. We can only float with their boulders, if we've built an adequate boat.

But where is our energy? Could it not be that we are the flood? It may indeed be. We can be the flood. We may have the energy. We might. Every patriot father must muster his children. Every patriot mother must muster her children. Every patriot friend must muster his friends.

Agreement. In an army, the soldiers agree to follow their commands. It is a flood of agreement that overcomes the enemy. That's what Master Sun refers to when discussing morale, leadership, command. Do the soldiers truly follow their general, ready to die for their state?
