The president tried repeatedly to impede the federal investigation of Russian intervention in the election that put him in office in part because of a "persistent concern that it raised questions about the legitimacy of his election."

One thing that drips from the pages of the Mueller report is that while the U.S. government largely focused on Russia's attempts to intercede in American politics, President Trump focused on himself.
