Lets talk about guns. @KamalaHarris just proposed the most aggressive executive actions on guns in history. If Congress fails to pass a gun safety bill w/n her first 100 days as president, she'll take action herself. It's simple: We're not waiting any longer. #CNNTownHall 1/

Here's what she wants on her desk: universal background checks, an assault weapons ban, & repeal of the @NRA’s corporate gun immunity bill. We have good ideas. Now we need the courage to do what's right. So if Rs continue to cower to the @NRA, she'll take them on herself...2/

1) Mandate near-universal background checks by requiring anyone who sells 5+ guns/year to run checks on all gun sales. Today in America, 1 of 5 gun purchases occur w/o a background check. Why? Bc federal law only requires gun "dealers" to perform checks. Who's a dealer? 🤷‍♂️3/

Federal law says those "in the business" of selling guns are dealers, which...isn't clear. The result is deadly: Gun sellers online and at gun shows are rarely considered "dealers" and so 1000's of guns are sold each year w/ no questions asked. That's crazy. 4/

Kamala's plan is simple: If you sell 5+ guns for profit in one year, you're "in the business" of selling guns and you must perform background checks. Full stop. Doesn't matter if you sell them online, at a gun show, or at a brick and mortar gun store. 5/

2) Revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers and dealers that break the law and take the most egregious offenders to court—regardless of whether they’re protected by the Protection of Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). What's the PLCAA? Glad you asked. 6/

In 2005, after extensive lobbying by the NRA, Congress passed the PLCAA, a dangerous law which prevents victims of gun violence from holding law-breaking gun manufacturers and dealers accountable in court. 7/

Kamala believes gun makers and dealers that break federal, state, or local laws – including negligence laws and unfair trade practices laws the PLCAA was designed to undercut – should be held accountable. That’s exactly what she will do as president. 8/

If Congress fails to repeal the PLCAA within her first 100 days, Kamala will act herself: Any willful & serious violation of the law and she will revoke the license of a gun dealer or manufacturer. The most egregious actors will face criminal liability. 9/

3) Reverse Trump’s change to the definition of “fugitive from justice," which he narrowed for purposes of determining who's prohibited from buying a gun. The result: Gun sales blocked to "fugitives from justice" dropped *65%* - that's 1000s of guns to those w arrest warrents 11/

4) Close the “boyfriend loophole” to prevent dating partners convicted of domestic violence from purchasing guns. While federal law prohibits abusers convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors from purchasing guns, regulations applying this prohibition have gaping loopholes. 12/

Ex: The prohibition does not always apply where an abuser is a dating partner. Yet, nearly **half** of all intimate partner homicides are committed by a dating partner and nearly **1 million women** in the U.S. alive today have been shot, or shot at, by an intimate partner. 13/

People convicted of domestic abuse shouldn’t be able to buy guns just because they’re not married to the person they abused. Kamala will take executive action to close the loophole. 14/
