The point of @PeteButtigieg wasn't that Trump & Sanders are similar. His actual point needs to be understood: anyone who wants to win, not just in the US but across the democratic world, has to be viewed as opposed to the prevailing order. It's often more important than ideology:
Remember Bannon said Hillary was the perfect opponent for Trump because she was perceived as an establishment guardian of the status quo. That's why Bolsonaro won, & so many other extremists perceived as hostile to the hated ruling class. It's why Bernie would've won in 2016.
Wittingly or not, Buttigieg is highlighting Sanders' greatest strength as a candidate: the same key asset that drove both Obama & then Trump to victory (and so many others around the world, including the comedian in Ukraine): he stands outside of, & against, the neoliberal order.
