On April 4th, Ukrainian intelligence services (SBU) believe that members of Russia's FSB were behind the plot to plant a car bomb in the lead up to the election when it went off prematurely. The target was a high ranking member of the SBU.

"Vasyl Hrytsak, the head of the SBU, the main intelligence agency, told a news conference in Kiev that seven members of the Russian group had been detained and charged and that an eighth person had been detained on Wednesday morning."
The perpetrator, later identified as Russian citizen Aleksey Komarov, a member of the FSB, actually survived the botched bombing.
