I don't gamble because I'm happy with my life. If I won a billion dollar lottery, I can't imagine living differently. Oh sure, maybe buy a few more old cars. And a private jet & villa in Monte Carlo. And a 300 ft yacht filled with bikini supermodels. Otherwise same ol' Dave.

Thanks to discounts and subsidies, we bought an electric car, a Chevy Bolt, 4 months ago. The final cost ($26K) wasn’t much more than an equivalent gas car—less, I bet, with fuel savings. Some preliminary pros/cons, purely in terms of its function as transportation. 1/10
Pros: It has snappy pickup and handles great, thanks partly to the flat, heavy batteries in the floor. And it’s quiet! Not having the engine blare is terrific. (In general, Chevy put on their A-list designers—lots of nice little touches. Good to know they *have* an A-list.) 2/10
EV engines are stupid simple. No toxic, explosive fluids sloshing around, no Rube Goldberg gizmos to flush byproducts into the air. Way less stuff to break and replace. Goodbye air filters and PCV valves! Our dealer sez he hates selling EVs, because they don’t need service. 3/10

15 years ago today, my baby girl died in my arms at 5 1/2 months old after suffering excruciating pain from a rare metabolic syndrome. The gruesome details of the long ordeal I will not go into. After doing everything we could we signed a DNR and took her off life support... 1/
We had a meeting with the hospital pastor, the palliative care director, and specialists of various types who all tried to help us save Nicole. The consensus was that if she survived, she would have no quality of life but that it was unlikely she would pull through w/o. 2/

My date followed up by asking, “If your boyfriend asked you to cook for him, would you?” I grinned, as I realised my date was sadly playing from a script. I replied, “I don’t have a guy I like who’s asking me to cook, so I can’t say.”
I think my date thought I was being coy. But, I wasn’t. I was just being honest. A while ago, I decided to deal in reality and not hypotheticals. I have tried and failed to control life. All my effort got me was an anxiety problem and therapy.

So I like a debate on points a) to c) purely based on #science (and "a consensus of paid lobbyscientists" is not science, but politics) & come up with workable solutions.

Battery pack costs are down 79% since 2010. Average battery density is improving 5-% per year.
