“Representation matters” shouldn’t be such a controversial opinion in a country that started a war over taxation without it.
And if you think “no taxation without representation” is about a different kind of representation, then you’re saying a room that looks like this will always have the best interests of women and male minorities in mind. What could go wrong?
The founders didn’t give us real democracy. They reserved it for themselves and people who looked like them. In politics, “representation matters” is about making our democracy a real one.
Representation matters in politics because America isn’t supposed to have second class citizens.

And anyone who says it’s a distraction or “identity politics” to want a president who isn’t yet another white guy is missing this point completely. It’s not enough to make our version of apartheid more “progressive”. We’re trying to end it.

Trump and his toadies don’t come out and say it all together. They just talk about “invasion”, say “Real America” is at risk, blame it on Democrats, and constantly bring up a few famously Jewish Democratic donors. And they let the shooters do the xenophobic math.
Welp. Remind me never to give the man credit for anything. Here it is, a few days before the midterms - and after the Tree of Life attack and mail bomber.

I was going to go through Timothy Snyder’s rules for dealing with a tyrant one by one.

But Trump is accusing his political and legal opponents of baby murder and an attempted coup.

I need to skip to Rule 17.
This is the language that precedes political violence and despotism. It should have alarms blaring. And I’m not sure what scares me more, his words or the level of indifference from the media and a lot of the public.
Of course, these dangerous words aren’t a new thing. Trump and his lackeys have been trotting these particular ones out for a while now. We’re getting used to his “enemy of the people” talk. And he’s been talking about invasion and infestation since day 1 of his campaign.

1. Just an FYI. If u have noticed I tried to keep out of the Trump/Sessions debates as much as possible. There was evidence for each side of the argument and no one could 100% prove their side was correct. I tend to take Trump at his word and he was pretty clear on the subject.
2. Most people didn't understand the level of his recusal. Sessions just didn't recuse himself of anything to deal with Russian but anything that came up during the 2016 campaign. Depending on how he defined that to himself that could include anything to do with well anything.
3.Sessions sought to be a bubble AG. Where his responsibilities for upholding the law started the day of his appointment and anything that happened before was not his concern.

I lost over 100 followers this week standing up for WOC being attacked by white women.
I'm sorry to have lost them because it means those folks missed the point.
White people have an obligation to POC in America because of the damage #racism inflicts even if we aren't #racist.
