I think spring loaded carbon fiber shoes are massively confounding what we’re seeing from the times today, by the way. Even a 1-min benefit (1 to 2%) would account for the depth of quality you just saw. It distorts the performance, maybe even more than doping. #londonmarathon
On this, you have a draw a line in the historical record books in about 2017, because thereafter, no comparison with any previous generation is possible. How big is X? Who knows? But X is large enough to make BN vs AN comparisons dubious and possibly irrelevant
Swimsuits did the same thing, especially the LZR and the generation of crazy suits it spawned in the 2008. The difference is that records in swimming don’t carry the historical weight that running ones do. But it’s the same debate, conceptually. I’d prefer all devices banned
Biggest issue, IMO, is that when differences between shoes is larger than the differences between runners in the SAME GENERATION (because gradual tech evolution over many generations is obvious - please don’t compare to the 50s), it creates issues for “result integrity” NOW.
