Problem: Today, we should have talked about a *trust-built* platform.
Newsflash: There's no privacy without trust. "Privacy" features without trust = the next 20 Facebook data/privacy scandals, just like the previous 20. #F8 #F82019
Besides, "privacy" is a cheap pivot. Facebook's privacy problem is a symptom, not the core problem.
"Privacy" doesn't have a thing to do with fake news, fraudulent ads, hate speech, misinformation, and hostile influence operations. "Privacy" doesn't fix any of that. #F8 #F82019
In fact, an emphasis on "privacy" runs the risk of making all of those problems worse for users of the platform. Instead of being out in the open, a "private" (opaque) social network will make those activities more difficult to spot and root out. #F8 #F82019
