The Muslim Brotherhood, like Qatar’s Al Jazeera, has two faces. A polished one for the gullible Western audience, and an authentic radical “Ikhwan” Islamist one.
The Muslim Brotherhood is the parent organisation of the designated terrorist group Hamas in Gaza, which advocates for a violent jihad to achieve the destruction of the State of Israel.
The Muslim Brotherhood’s ideological leaders have been clear about the groups violent Islamist ideology. Already in the 1950s-60s did Sayyid Qutb encourage a form of violent jihad, known as Qutbism.
To this day, leading Brotherhood figures who reside in Qatar share this poisonous ideology and extremist rhetoric on Al Jazeera Arabic serving as inspiration for violent Islamist offshoots worldwide.
The Brotherhood’s actions at least warrant a robust and bold discussion about the possibility to designate the group as terrorists. For too long have they gotten away with their faux image of non-violent Islamism.
