1) The New York Times has revealed - way down in the 20th paragraph of an otherwise unremarkable article - that Deutsche Bank has Trump’s tax returns and is giving them to House Democrats. It explains why Trump has abruptly filed a last ditch suit against Deutsche Bank.
2) This is a huge story. But no one is talking about it, because no one reads all the way to the 20th paragraph of an otherwise boring process article, and newspapers have no idea how to prioritize the most important important information that they uncover.
3) Palmer Report and a few others have taken this buried bombshell and tried to make it important. But cable news won’t touch it yet, due to the unknown timetable created by the suit. And most people don’t think a story is “real” until they hear it on their television.
4) For now, Palmer Report is taking shit from the lazy “how can this be real if no one else is reporting” crowd; nevermind that we’ve clearly stated that it’s sourced back to a buried New York Times report. In their minds, the NYT hasn’t “reported” it until it’s in a headline.
5) But the reality is that if and when the judge throws out Trump’s suit, House Democrats will immediately get several years of Trump’s tax returns. TV will report it as breaking news, and people will (once again) wonder how Palmer Report could have known what was coming.
6) If newspapers would write competent headlines like “Deutsche Banks prepares to give Trump’s tax returns to Congress,” or if cable news would do its job instead of strategically sitting on stories for later, Palmer Report wouldn’t need to exist and I could be at the beach 😁
