THREAD I’m totally aghast by reports that US ambassador in #Ukraine is being removed in the wake of intense scandal-mongering by Trump fake news machine. Amb. Marie Yovanovitch is a fine career diplomat who’s been subjected to a stream of insane accusations for the past year. 1/
In May 2018 Laura Ingraham called for her resignation after former Rep Sessions (R-TX) sent a “private” letter to Pompeo asking for Yovanovitch's removal b/c she "spoke privately and repeatedly about her disdain for the current administration.” 2/
These accusations were repeated and then amplified by Don Jr., FoxNews, Joe diGenova, alt-right figures like Jack Pobosiec, and The Hill’s John Solomon. 3/
The accusations have been as insulting as they have been absurd but all tie back to anti-Mueller claims that the “real” election interference in 2016 was a series of pro-Hillary machinations involving the government of Ukraine. 4/ thehill.com/opinion/white-…
The Hill has repeatedly given various discredited Ukrainian figures a platform to proclaim that they were bullied by US officials trying to cover up this “story” and that the Obama team secretly tried to get dirt on Paul Manafort. 5/ thehill.com/opinion/campai…
Some of this "reporting" got recycled in the NYT hit piece on Biden last week, which included a description of how Rudy Giuliani has been trying to get the Justice Department to launch a formal investigation using info from the same (!) Ukrainians. 6/ nytimes.com/2019/05/01/us/… 
It's simply beyond me how a valuable and dedicated career US official like Ambassador Yovanovitch could be targeted by this kind of numbskull nonsense. Sad day for the State Department and the country. END
