John Durham uncovered an FBI conspiracy with mobsters in 2000. A judge who awarded the victims of the conspiracy over $100 million wrote that it involved the agents, their supervisors, and the FBI director.

A Congressional inquiry triggered by Durham's revelation resulted in a scorching 3,500 page report. Congress called it “one of the greatest failures in the history of federal law enforcement.”
