Personally, I think a Second Referendum has become inevitable. But how do Remain win it? /1
A Second Referendum is inevitable because a change of Prime Minister won't change the parliamentary arithmetic. /2
A Second Referendum is inevitable because a General Election is likely to only result in another Hung Parliament, especially given Labour & the Tories are both deeply unpopular in Scotland. /3
A Second Referendum is inevitable because Brexit positions have become totemic, and nobody is willing to compromise enough to get anything done. /4
In the event of a Second Referendum, both Leave and Remain face massive issues. /5
The European elections have exposed the weakness of the various pro-Remain groups, still busy playing party politics when the country faces a decisive issue. Labour's ambivalent stance has been deeply unhelpful to the country as a whole. /6
But in Remain's favour, they've built up a massive grassroots movement, probably the largest pro-European movement in the entire continent, all of whom can be mobilised as activists. /7
Leave foresaw this fight, and began preparing their strategy in 2016. This time, Farage is at the heart of it; he's positioning himself to be in charge of the official Leave campaign in any Second Referendum. /8
Leave is organised, they're well-funded (however opaquely), and they're getting their sound-bites in now. Watch them like hawks, because the messaging they're deploying now is the same messaging they'll use in a Second Referendum. /9
Leave's greatest weakness is that it is open to extremists. Witness the lengths Farage is going to in order to cut off anyone who expresses respect and solidarity for Tommy Robinson. The likes of Robinson will go off-message, and leave the campaign vulnerable. /10
So how do Remain counter Farage's message? The answer is - by having a message of our own. /11
"Remain and Reform" isn't the message. The reality is we've burned too much goodwill, in any non-Brexity future we'll be expected to shut up, sit down, and think about what we almost did for a while. /12
The 2016 Referendum should have killed one thing decisively: David Cameron's vision of a two-tier Europe, with the UK sat as near to the outside as possible. /13
If Remain is to win a Second Referendum, Remain will need to be bold. This time round, it must be a choice between EMBRACING membership of the EU and REJECTING it. Not the status quo and Leave. /14
The truth is that, in political terms, the UK has never truly seemed to embrace the EU. Just look at how many opt-outs we pursue. The EU has been, at best, portrayed as a necessary evil for prosperity and influence rather than as a good thing in and of itself. /15
Remainers will need to explain what the EU is and what we gain from membership - NOT just what we lose by Brexit. And I don't just mean in economic terms, either; the truth is that the electorate has not been educated in how to understand those economic terms. /16
The PATRIOTIC case for Brexit must be stressed; that the UK has something to contribute to the world, and is thus better served by membership of the European Union. Remainers must argue, on emotional terms, that Britain is GREATER for EU membership. /17
Remain must use language of BRAVERY, arguing that it is more brave to engage with the world than to retreat from it. /18
The Second Referendum campaign must attempt to touch people's hearts as well as their heads, to inspire them with a vision of the country as it could be if we truly engaged with the EU rather than bore with it. /19
I don't believe Remain is guaranteed to win a Second Referendum. But at least, through that kind of campaign, the outcome would truly be a decisive one. And should Remain win, it's a vision that would begin to rebuild the goodwill that has been destroyed. /end
