Establishment media folks are "pouncing" on President Trump's comments today about the need to "restore the integrity of our broken asylum system."

What Trump described is accurate, as New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman recently detailed...

Trump: "legitimate asylum seekers are being displaced by those lodging frivolous claims…to gain admission"

Friedman: "as a result of this crush of applications, more & more people who really have had to flee persecution get pushed further and further back in line for a hearing"

Trump: "Asylum abuse also strains our public school systems, our hospitals & local shelters, using funds…that have to go to…Americans in poverty, & those in genuine need of protection."

Friedman: Consider the "possible impact on…social welfare resources"

Trump: "My plan expedites relief for legitimate asylum seekers by screening out the meritless claims."

Friedman: "The bar [for 'credible fear'] is low and leaflets circulating in Tijuana coach people on what exactly to say to pass that interview to qualify for a formal hearing"

Trump: "If you have a proper claim, you will quickly be admitted. If you don’t, you will promptly be returned home."

Friedman: "some are economic migrants gaming the process. But once you’re in the US & file for asylum, there’s a good chance for you to stay—legally or illegally"
