I saw some transmasc truscum accounts bemoaning the use of inclusive language when talking about abortion because it reminds them that they have uteri. And like. It's really sad how easily you shoot yourself in the foot when you refuse to admit genitals aren't inherently gendered
I can't lecture people with such different experience to me on how dysphoria is supposed to work. But this is bad for transmasc people. Without the clear notice being made that men can get pregnant, it'll be all too easy for activists and laws to leave them behind.
Those disposal boxes are only in women's restrooms. It's like that. If trans men are not included in the fight for reproductive rights, we end up with situations like that where they can only access services they need by denying their masculinity and entering "women's" spaces
And sure, they may not need these services eventually, like if they get a hysterectomy or something, but that's not all transmasc people. I can only imagine how much it must suck for transmasc people early on to constantly "admit" they're a woman because they have periods
This is prime TERF fuel too, like their message of "you need to stop being transmasc because your body is being legislated as a woman and the only way to fight back is to admit you really are one" is gonna strike a chord with people who don't know any better.
Of course, TERF shit is nonsense as always. Conservatives think trans men are women so their gender-based misogyny leads to laws that hurt more than just women. TERFs let them define the terms of debate. Their rejection of intersectonality hurts their cause.
Truscum misunderstand the point of inclusive language. It's not there to remind everyone transmasc people have "feminine" parts in them, it's there to remind everyone that those parts aren't necessarily feminine. Pretending the parts aren't there is the opposite of helpful
There's nothing inherently gendered about genitalia. I have a dick, and that makes me different from cis women, but I'm not a cis woman. I'm a trans woman. My dick isn't a stain on my femininity, but a part of it. I'm not affected by abortion laws, that doesn't make me a man
Of course it does mean I have less of a standpoint to understand and write abortion laws ... though maybe slightly more of one because I know what hormones can do. But trans men and cis women clearly have a better standpoint than me. Because they can actually get pregnant
Getting pregnant, of course, is not a necessarily feminine thing. That's what I'm saying. I'd respond the same if a trans woman said inclusive language was bad because it reminded her she couldn't get pregnant. We have a much better base for activism when we acknowledge this.
Thank you for reading my thread. I don't like truscum that much if you can believe it. I think their rhetoric comes from a place of deep self hatred and a sense of superiority for playing into cis society's idea that trans self hatred is correct.
The saddest thing is they hurt themselves. They fight for a more exclusionary, closed off, gatekeepy world. There's no point to it. We're all so much better off when we recognize that human experience is diverse and that transphobic society is what's holding us all back.
Anyone can be anything, and they can have anything, and they can do anything, and that can mean whatever they want it to mean. I think that's a lot more inspiring than some bullshit about how you have to desperately want some bit of meat altered to get basic fucking respect.
Here's a brief thread that I think compounds my point nicely
