0/ Had a great chat with @MattVerlaque today about the benefits of industry-focused SaaS (in the case of @uplaunch it's CRM & marketing for gyms). Some insights that came up follow 👇
1/ Is it shocking how effective just rebuilding generalist SaaS tools (CRM, marketing automation, project mgmt) for specific industry and just using the right labels, actions, and workflows increases adoption in industries. Clients vs Customers vs Bookings really does matter!
2/ Focusing on an industry allows you build in to your product {industry} specific expertise. Yea we're an email marketing tool, but we also give you best practices on using Adwords/FB ads for {industry}. Great opportunities for customer happiness or upsell Expertise-as-a-service
3/ Unlike generalist products, your customers (& their customers) are a targeting niche. Every opportunity you have with an "audience" (newsletter, podcast, content site) is also on the table.
3b/ Example: a SaaS for barbers that sends receipts emails could offer a new hair care product a coupon promo. One-click opt-in rev-share for your SaaS customers who feel the product is good 🤑
4/ Seems obvious but, your clients tell you who they are! Someone who has the preferences to switch between 2 different generalist CRMs is very hard to find, but you can literally generate a list of gyms representing like $10m in ARR with address & phone number in an afternoon.
