THREAD: As I finish my crisis preparedness in Baptist higher education dissertation I’ve had these thoughts concerning the SBC sexual abuse crisis (because this is a crisis):
The DOJ says, “Over their lifetime 18% of women & 2% of men in America will be raped, while 44% of women & 23% of men will experience some other form of sexual violence.” This means there ARE people in the pews who are either currently being or have been sexual abused.
As Baptists we believe & preach the realities of sin, but it seems we are caught off-guard by the effects of sin.

there's a rather viral thread that argues people from 4chan and SomethingAwful have been duped by folks from 2ch into believing that japan is a depoliticized paradise of rightwingers
and uh, i understand why folks want to believe in that but that's fucking nonsense
for example, the thread confuses contemporary japanese right-wing rhetoric (historical denialism) with how the LDP gained power (the 1955 System or 55年体制 which split the dissenting votes into many parties)
we can't also ignore how the US saw japan as an ally in the cold war
japan was described (or rather reimagined) as a "geisha ally" for a reason
after ww2, japan was viewed as a "developing country" that needed a lot of help from the united states and so on
and development in the cold war (and even now) tends to depoliticize countries

Honest follow up to the white make entitlement thread:

Yes, anyone can be rude. But when a certain demographic is consistently rude in the same, systemic way, you can define that behavior using that demographic.
White women, as a demographic, do bad things too (hello 2016 election!). I can both acknowledge this truth and also know that I don't embody all these behaviors.
I find it's easier to digest seemingly broad statements like "white male entitlement" when you're more comfortable with yourself.
