1. At this stage, the PM seems to have bought another 36 hours, by refusing to quit and refusing to see ministers who want her to go asap
2. Weirdness of having euro elections tmrw also helps Number 10 cling on to n for little while longer - one senior MP suggests May might choose to be lightning rod if results disastrous on Sunday night/early Monday - her departure at that point could soak up some of blame
3. But she's seeing Brady on Friday - before EU elex results, but this is more about the Brexit Bill that seems dead - seems very very unlikely this bill will be presented now

1. Win for @AlbertoCostaMP who's persuaded Michael Gove to scrap fees for EU citizens to become British citizens if he becomes PM and to change system for EU citizens who live here so they don't have prove they have the right to stay
2. Costa says - 'EU citizens rights were wrongly placed onto the negotiating table. By absolutely guaranteeing the rights of EU nationals and making them a truly generous offer of British Citizenship, Michael Gove has got it. This is the morally right thing to do'
2. Source close to Gove says 'This is simply the right thing to do – honouring the promise of vote Leave that EU nationals studying, working + living in the UK were welcome to stay.'-in theory this could mean as many as 3m new UK citizens in unlikely event they all took up offer

It’s always absolutely brutal watching a PM quit - May obviously absolutely devastated having fought so long and so hard
Standby of course for politicians who were part of her undoing now miraculously spending the day saying nice things about her - this is a rough game
No question her leadership was broken some time ago and she was c reluctant to accept it - political chemistry will change for whoever’s next - but policy nightmares remain

1. Been a weird day - election rules have meant we haven’t been able to report fully on what’s been going on
2. Now polls have closed... several Cabinet ministers say they expect May to name the date tmrw, one told me they might quit if she doesn’t
3. Likely date for start of contest 10th June, so May still in place fully for Trump visit, then ministers hope contest for next PM can be wrapped up by end of July

Creating a new institution creates a power-base. Institutions tend to a) defend their existence and b) try to obtain the competences they need to do a meaningful job
Creating DIT hence created an institution interested in being able to create free trade agreements - for better or for worse regarded as a golden prize in international trade.
