Am waiting for @reetacbbc and @bbclaurak on @BBCNews to start adding up the Lib Dem and Green (unambiguously pro Remain) votes at the same time as getting excited about Brexit party totals.
Chelmsford- Green + Lib Dem on 39%. Only 1% behind Farage. In Essex.
Note: talking about Farage’s party “winning” or “taking” areas with ~30% of the vote is utterly misplaced and misleading. But it’s all over the BBC News website. THIS IS NOT A FIRST PAST THE POST ELECTION. @BBCNews
It doesn’t really matter who comes “top of the poll”. Look at the Farage percentages vis-a-vis combined pro Remain parties.
And if Farageists start talking about about popular support for a “WTO Brexit” point out that all other parties (except possibly the Tories) oppose it.
Then add up the percentages of those parties and put it to the Farageist spokespeople. This election is in fact seeing a clear defeat for “no deal”.
(It is also, by the same logic, not a victory for revoke/a 2nd referendum or whatever the 2 main parties are standing for either: the country is still split. But since the BP is claiming that the result is a cry for “no deal”’ it is their claim that most needs interrogating.)
