If you are a serial killer Nigeria is just the place to be. Journalists will help you with cause of death based on the rumours they heard. Police won't really investigate. There will be no DNA evidence or anything. People will pray for the deceased and thank god it wasn't them.
One of the first things my first lawyer boss told me was that murder cases were the easiest criminal matters to defend. He was often state appointed counsel for criminal defendants. Unless someone was especially sloppy, incompetent govt officers make it v. easy to get acquittals
The first case I was part of: A woman was accused of killing her neighbor's 7 kids with rat poison. The only evidence police and state prosecutor had? An empty otapia bottle. An empty syringe. (Both things every household has). Judge eventually acquitted. Defendant went home.
One defendant my boss got acquitted, fled from the court once the judge announced his acquittal on the basis of want of diligent prosecution. Prosecutors, at the 6th adjournment couldn't produce a single witness or piece of evidence. Defendant knew he'd be rearrested in court.
