So many on the right view corporate capitalism’s embrace of “LGBTQ+” as some kind of trick the Left pulled on big business.
From Pizza Hut to Goldman Sachs to Nickelodeon, all of these corporations have been infiltrated by “SJWs,” who’ve conned, bullied, or blackmailed capitalists into supporting a perverse agenda. Or perhaps “the media” is to blame.
The truth is more disturbing. Long before government recognized gay marriage, corporate America embraced the gay lifestyle and gay employees and consumers. Corporations were, in fact, ahead of most in academia.
It’s difficult for me to believe that corporate and financial leaders—adept at mass marketing, investment, and industrial production—were tricked into an unholy alliance with SJWs.
I also don’t buy the Leninist maxim that capitalists will “sell you the rope you hang them with.” Again, such interpretations are based on the idea that capitalists are stupid, which they clearly are not.
Ultimately, LGBTQ+ is not a threat to postmodern capitalism; it can easily be tolerated by it. In fact, LGBTQ+ derives from the logic of postmodern capitalism. It’s the SJWs who are beholden to capitalists, and not the other way around.
In mid-century America, the preferred consuming unit was a family of four, with a “company man” husband, dutiful housewife, and 2.4 kids. “Conservatives” of today dream about returning to this earlier, outmoded stage of national capitalism.
But such a White-Protestant model was inadequate for capitalism’s further expanse across the globe, as well as corporations’ desire to envelop and neutralize the counter-culture and criticisms of capitalism.
Homosexuals make up some 3-5% of the population. LGBTQ+—gayness, “globohomo,” whatever you want to call it—is infinitely larger and more impactful.
The homosexual is not a revolutionary; he is, in fact, the ideal consumer—whether in the figure of “pride” festival attendees, who rejoice in their “liberated” lifestyle with no thought of the future, or the bourgeois gay, such as neoconservative politician Pete Buttigieg.
Not everyone must actually be gay. (I doubt the homosexual population will ever rise above 5%.) But everyone must embrace The Big Gay: universal “individualism” (“unique, just like everyone else”), a consumer lifestyle liberated from tradition, nature, hierarchy, and the family.
So in conclusion, happy “pride” month, you corporate stooges!
