White gays refuse to believe that Black people don’t want to vote for Buttigieg because he is *checks notes* bad for Black people.

But of course, don’t take advice from a Black gay man who lives at the intersections of racism and homophobia daily.
I’m so exhausted by some white gays & their problematic stances. The same ones who tried to blame Prop 8 on the Black community & attempt to force the idea that Black people are more homophobic than others.
News flash: the majority of anti-sodomy laws and other anti-LGBTQ efforts have been spearheaded by white people — evangelicals — not Black people. But of course it’s easier to spread misinformation about Black people. The truth is too much to bear.
Far too many white gay men walk around not realizing how racist #LGBTQ movements are then are suddenly shocked when they don’t receive support from Black and brown people. What, exactly, have you done to receive our support? And I say that as a Black AND gay man.
The US movement for marriage equality pushed aside so many policies that impacted Black and brown people — including Black and brown LGBTQ people. Minimal $$$ went to homelessness, healthcare, the criminal legal system, etc. Yet we were always demanded to show up.
Now you have focus groups generalizing southern Black people who aren’t interested in Buttigieg, proclaiming they/we are more homophobic rather than understanding the real issue — the LGBTQ community is largely racist, sexist, and transphobic.
There’s a reason Shelby County, which gutted voting rights was decided two years before Obergefell — and we heard minimal repulse from LGBTQ organizations. Similar reasons they are silent around abortion, contraception, sex work, among others. We’re asterisks.
Just a few months ago, Mayor Buttigieg was talking to this Black woman and told her — and I paraphrase — he wasn’t trying to get her vote. The fact that anyone can automatically mention homophobia is whiteness on display.
This is about being intersectional in our work. This isn’t the time for straight Black people to say “go head, Preston” because lord knows y’all have work to do, too. I’m just beyond tired of white LGBTQ people being offended by homophobia but silent on racism and sexism.
So many said his statement of “I’m not here for your vote” was taken out of context but he also said it to a Black woman when she vocally disagreed with his handling of a police investigation. So, no.
