The Jared Kushner Axios interview with @JonathanvSwan making the rounds today is exactly as amoral and delusional as everyone is saying. It’s hard to identify the *worst* part. 1/8
timesofisrael.com/kushner-doubts…
It’s astounding, for example, that someone holding themselves out to be the key negotiator in an Israeli-Palestinian 'peace' plan brushes off concerns over his one-sided approach by proudly claiming "I'm not here to be trusted." 2/8
Asked about claiming to want to improve life for the Palestinian people while cutting support for their hospitals and schools, he replies: “There’s a difference between the Palestinian leadership and the Palestinian people.”
Who does he think uses the hospitals and schools? 3/8
Kushner says he doubts the Palestinians’ ability to self-govern - a tired, racist trope to dismiss legitimate rights and aspirations for freedom, equality and independence (Remember, the ‘better’ alternative he’s arguing for is an indefinite, undemocratic military occupation) 4/8
No amount of economic investment will convince Palestinians to forget the occupation and abandon their aspirations for basic political rights and freedoms.
What’s more, it's often the bureaucracy of the occupation itself which stifles investment and economic development. 5/8
It's clear this is not a good faith peace effort. This admin’s approach only helps the Israeli right entrench the occupation, paves the way for annexation + endangers Israel’s long-term future. Its failure will sap good faith + drain political will for genuine peace efforts. 6/8
That’s exactly why we’re supporting H.Res.326, through which over 100 members of Congress have already opposed any US plan that would support annexation and obstruct a two-state solution. 7/8
Add your name today to tell your member of Congress to support the resolution and draw a red line at annexation. 8/8
