People are raging over the new #HelloKitty #Tetris production, who just was a reskin of the free Tetris Marathon game in Tetris.com. It was followed with the shutdown of @tetrisfriends, 3 days before.
But the writing was on the wall for years, now.
TTC laid off 2/5th of their Online devs in 2013.
Arena, the live PvP mode, was still in "Beta" and never got out of it. After that, they only closed the Rubies loopholes found by the users, while shoving as much ads and malwares as they could in the site.

Then, the whole @Ubisoft's #TetrisUltimate clusterfuck, when the game was über hyped at E3, with Pajitnov, Rogers, and @harddrop (Blink) showcasing the game live. Results, the game came with tons of bugs. Here's the game's state at release.
Fortunately for us, @SEGA released #PuyoPuyoTetris. But it didn't go well, when the main mode, supposed to be "balanced", went heavily criticized by the Puyo community. And in general, having a crossover as our only decent official Tetris to be competitive on, just sucks.
Then, @enhance_exp came, releasing #TetrisEffect. $40 of top visuals great music and VR compatibility, with a lot of single player modes... But no multiplayer.
Back in Effect's release, our only decent options for PvP in Tetris was made by the community (jstris, WWC, etc)
It's clear. TTC has no care for its community or the people playing their games seriously. And @tetrisfriends was abandonned long before May 31st' shutdown. Unfortunately, when I told that story on the r/Tetris subreddit, I got things like these. Along with a couple of downvotes.
My point is that high level Tetris Guideline has never been that much watched. @inazuma0217tai1, @doremypuyotet and @Wumbotize are gaining a lot of momentum on YouTube, and @harddrop's Blink will be at @GamesDoneQuick for his Tetris Effect run.
TTC could have exploited this situation, and make it a great competitive scene from the official rules they pushed themselves. It could be a fantastic self-promotion, and maybe the begining of a new esport scene, maybe. But it's like they don't want this to happen.
With @TheCTWC, it just proves that TTC has no clue about what's going on. They endorse and sponsorize a tourney that don't even support official games. Alexey Pajitnov himself made a video shoutout to the tournament, while @JdMfX_ was a nominee for best esport moment in an award.
I don't see myself getting that help, despite the effort I could pull as an EU Guideline TO.
And even if I did, what game should I push? It's way easier to push the Puyo scene since #PuyoPuyoChampions came out, but Tetris doesn't have the same type of consensus behind one game.
I'm probably seen as someone that just complains, but I'm just concerned about the community. We deserve so much more than just having to play community-ran games, especially when we follow the official rules, even for our non-official games. (except for Cultris)
I try to be optimistic, but with what happened today, and over those last 5 years with Tetris, it's like deluding ourselves, really.
Curse you, TTC, with your "Lifestyle Brand"! We want to PLAY!
