Is the NHS safe from UK trade deals? Where to start with this one? US healthcare companies are already present in the UK (see e.g. theguardian.com/society/2016/f…) and the degree of private involvement in the NHS will always be a UK decision. But...
Right now we cannot say the NHS will not be affected by trade deals e.g. given US demands on drug pricing (huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/trump-pl…), just as we can't say for certain that food standards will not be changed (use of the word lowering is not useful in this context), so...
Rather than @LiamFox getting irate when people say bad things may happen in a trade deal, it would be better for the UK to be developing trade policy much more transparently - not least as the devil will be in the detail - as I have frequently said... ecipe.org/blog/assessing…
The fundamental category error this Government has made is to assume that trade deals, as they generate growth, are popular. It never was the case, even less so today. Especially with the US and this President. You have to argue for them not get irate /end theguardian.com/business/2015/…
