Biden might have flipped back to supporting Hyde because it polls well amongst the general electorate. But denying abortion services to poor women isn’t popular at all. And whether he thinks that he only has to defeat Trump, Biden has a primary to win. nym.ag/2HYmSgA

Eastland was known as the “Voice of the White South.” He opposed the Civil Rights Act, complained of “mongrelization,” and spoke of black people as “an inferior race.” He may have liked you, @JoeBiden. He still voted to undermine our humanity. You just disproved your whole point.
I’m just going to ask this straight out: what the hell is wrong with @JoeBiden? Eastland, an arch-segregationist, “never called me ‘boy,’ he always called me ‘son’”? You don’t say! Now, why was that the case? Was it your special talent for reaching across the aisle? Or whiteness?
I’m just going to venture a guess and say that his whiteness is the reason why a white supremacist in the Senate thought Joe Biden, despite their policy differences, just might be an okay guy. That Biden considers this a selling point for his 2020 candidacy should set off alarms.

If I had a child going to @Harvard, I’d want her or him to have as few classmates as possible with a history of saying “nigger” repeatedly. This wasn’t about free speech. It’s mainly about public safety. The decision shouldn’t be remotely controversial. on.theatln.tc/zqidTTW
For all the folks questioning how “nigger” could become a public safety issue for college students, a quick story. During my freshman year at Penn, I lived in a dorm that was populated almost completely by black students. One night during fall midterms, we started getting calls.
I got to the phone before any my roommates. It was more than 25 years ago, and I would recognize his voice today. Clear, calm. Smiling, but he didn’t sound like he was suppressing a laugh. Sociopathic. He enunciated the word.

“Is this the ‘nigger dorm’?”
“What?”
He repeated it.

You could wonder why these @phoenixpolice officers would do this after a four-year-old girl lifted a dollar-store Barbie when she didn’t know any better. But “the cruelty is the point” doesn’t just apply to President Trump.
It should go without saying that the @phoenixpolice officers involved in this incident should be fired and prosecuted for assault, even if that seems unlikely. But the problem remains the system that allows for such abuse of power. I know this has been said. It bears repeating.
The @phoenixpolice officers who brutalized that black family also lied on their report to make it seem as if their lives were endangered. Turned off their body cameras. Bystanders with phones created the only path to accountability. The system is broken.

In 1981, the “Biden amendment” to the Foreign Assistance Act banned any American aid from being used in research related to abortions.
