1/ Where they landed on #DDay. A thread.

2/ Western Canadian infantry battalions stormed ashore at Courseulles-sur-Mer. The tanks of the @1stHussars from London, ON supported the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (@cityofwinnipeg), the Regina Rifle Regiment (@CityofRegina), and the Canadian Scottish Regiment from @CityOfVictoria.
3/ The @queensownrifles from Toronto assaulted Bernières-sur-Mer while the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment landed nearby to attack Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. Tanks from the Fort Garry Horse, raised in the @cityofwinnipeg area, supported both attacks.
4/ Le Régiment de la Chaudière, from the @villequebec area, was in reserve and came ashore behind the @queensownrifles. The Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment from southern Québec formed the armoured reserve.
5/ Three Highland regiments were in reserve and landed at Bernières later on the 6th. They included the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, the Highland Light Infantry of Canada (Waterloo County, Ontario), and the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders from southeastern Ontario.
6/ Newfoundland was not yet a part of Canada in 1944. Nevertheless, plenty of Newfoundlanders joined the Canadian military. Others joined the armed forces in Newfoundland and served in Normandy with the 59th (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery.
7/ Our #JunoPostcards program honours 400 Canadian servicemen killed between 6 June and 10 June 1944. Addresses across the country are represented because Canadians from coast to coast volunteered and laid down their lives to fight Nazi Germany.
8/ Your Canadian city, town, village, or county was probably represented on D-Day, even if just by a handful of servicemen. A visit to your local Legion hall or Cenotaph might uncover some clues.
