Good morning. Today, former @EPA heads will visit Congress to offer their testimony on the state of the agency and where it is headed.

An excerpt from former EPA admin Gina McCarthy's testimony:
McCarthy says there is an "unstoppable crusade" bolstered by a "voracious" appetite at today's EPA to dismantle rules and regs, ultimately endangering the public health:
The committee will also hear from former EPA heads William Reilly 
(1989-1993), Lee Thomas (1985-1989) and Christine Todd Whitman (2001-2003).

House Intel has subpoenaed Michael Flynn + onetime Trump campaign deputy chair Rick Gates for records + congressional testimony. Intel Committee Chairman Schiff calls their failure to fully cooperate with Congress "simply unacceptable."

The hearing starts at 9 AM and I will live-tweet. Join me, wont you? We are hearing from former FBI agents who have experience with the nuances involved in Russian espionage and who House Dems believe can illuminate Mueller's Vol. 1 findings. More to come.
Hearing will be underway shortly.
The Mueller investigation did not begin as a criminal probe but a counterintelligence investigation.

But what does that mean, exactly? We'll parse this out today, Chairman Schiff says.

Good morning. The former Foreign Secretary and favourite to become Prime Minister thinks there will be a transition period after a no-deal crash out Brexit.
So what's interesting about the response to this tweet is how many people either (a) redefine "transition" to mean "the bit after we crash out and before we get sweet new deals with everyone", or (b) think the EU will "give" us a transition period despite no-deal, just because 🇬🇧
This is a particularly dangerous example of disinfo. It takes a term with a clear meaning - "transition period" - and turns it inside out. Instead of a managed handover period from membership to some new status, "transition" is redefined as a lawless in-between chaotic state.

Good morning! Today the Senate Judiciary Committee is having a hearing Sen. Graham's "Secure and Protect Act," his plan to rewrite asylum laws.

Importantly, this will be Acting DHS Secretary @DHSMcAleenan's first appearance since Friday's tariffs announcement.

The bill would allow for vastly expanded detention of families and children, block asylum for anyone not going to a port of entry, and create other new limits on asylum.

Biathlon is a deceptively simple sport, but in the trade-off between its two component parts - distance skiing and rifle shooting - lies a wealth of emergent complexity and excitement.

I am not even a little bit joking. It’s absolutely riveting.
Very briefly: racers ski for a given distance - say 12.5km - punctuated by a number of prone (lying down) and standing shoots. Five targets must be hit each time. Missed incur extra distance. Targets for the prone are golf ball size and 50m away. Stand targets are a bit bigger.

Good morning! Today's #TenThings post will focus on WORLDBUILDING. Now, keep in mind, this is 10 tweets, whereas I did a 7000+ word lecture on Worldbuilding for my old class at @LitReactor and teach it as a 3-hour workshop. So... it's gonna be sparse and incomplete! Still:
1. Worldbuilding happens on every page, even in contemporary stories. It's about what's relevant to your protagonist, how they specifically react to their world. It includes all the senses, the environment, the government, the culture. Your job is to show just the right amount.
2. If you need to start with an infodump, go ahead. Most beginning writers = their first chapter is all infodump, laying down the rules of the world. And that's ok. Write it, start the story, and when you've written the whole thing, DELETE THE EXCESS. Get it out of your system.
