This might be the perfect distillation of D’Souza’s childish version of American history — the Democratic Party is responsible for everything bad, and the Republican Party has never done anything bad.

If you think the major political parties have never changed, that shows you have a childish understanding of American history.

If you think either party has NO history of racism in its existence, that’s even more ridiculous.

I’ve noted this repeatedly here:
In that video, for instance, D’Souza claims that the chief obstacle to immigrants achieving the American Dream is “the Democratic Party.”

Both parties have imperfect histories here, but if you’re singling one out for special blame, the Democrats are an odd choice.
The biggest blow to immigrants who were seeking the American Dream was the 1924 National Origins Act.

Both parties voted for it, but it was sponsored by conservative Republicans in the House and Senate, signed by conservative Republican Calvin Coolidge.
The National Origins Act — which completely barred immigrants from Asia and gave new preferences to Northern and Western Europe — resulted from a white supremacist panic in the 1910s and 1920s.

I tried to explain it to D’Souza’s friend here:
Again, members of both parties voted for it, but the National Origins Act was sponsored by a Republican in the House, sponsored by a Republican in the Senate, signed by a Republican in the White House.

But there has been NO racism in the Republican Party. Ever.

Sure, OK.
I’m not going to belabor this any longer, because we’ve seen this repeatedly now.

TL;DR: History is messy. Anyone speaking about unchanging actors in absolute terms doesn’t have the slightest clue how it works.
