I stand with my brother Jesuits who stand with our LGBT colleagues and stand against the relentless targeting of LGBT people. Other employees do not conform to, or agree with, church teaching: straight couples living together before marriage, practicing birth control, etc...
...as well as employees who are not Catholic, not Christian, or not believers. Yet they are not targeted. The targeting of LGBT employees must cease, and Brebeuf and the Midwest Province are here standing with the marginalized. This is the most Catholic thing that they could do.

Here is why the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is unjustly targeting LGBT people. Their statement about #Brebeuf reads: "Whether they teach religion or not, all ministers in their professional and private lives must convey and be supportive of Catholic Church teaching." Thread
If employees' "professional and private lives must convey and be supportive of Catholic Church teaching" that means that, to be consistent, all Catholic institutions (schools, parishes, hospitals, retreat centers) in the Archdiocese would also have to fire the following people:
1) Catholic straight individuals living with someone before being married.
2) Catholic married couples who use birth control.
3) Catholic straight individuals who are divorced and remarried without an annulment.
4) Catholic couples who use in vitro fertilization.

There are legitimate arguments for limiting immigration, and each country is entitled to make laws for its own well being. But there are zero legitimate reasons for limiting it on the basis of religion. Zero. This is stereotyping, plain and simple. americamagazine.org/politics-socie…
This approach also completely subverts Jesus's parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10). The man who helps the beaten man by the side of the road is a Samaritan, from a different religious tradition. One of the parable's messages is that "our neighbor" may have different beliefs.
Moreover, our salvation, as in the case of the Good Samaritan parable, may depend entirely on the person that we falsely see as "other." And, by the way, the Samaritan helps the beaten man even at considerable risk to himself. (He is on a road frequented by robbers.)

Dear friends at @Church_Militant @LifeSite and Tradition Family and Property, who write articles, start online petitions and organize protests whenever I speak. Let me save you some time and effort. Because, lately, here's what usually happens when you do this. (Thread.)
1) I am invited by a Catholic organization (school, parish, retreat center) who knows full well of my ministry to LGBT people. So the organizers are already aware of this one aspect of my Jesuit life, and are, in most places, either neutral about it or openly supportive of it.
2) This is especially the case when I am invited to speak about LGBT Catholics per se. Obviously, the organizers support this LGBT ministry, and they often invite me with the support of the local bishop, as with the LGBT family retreat at the Jesuit Center in Wernersville, Pa.

#BREAKING: A confirmed active shooter at Santa Fe High School just South of Houston, Texas. Life flight has been called out. One witness said the shooting started in an art class around 7:45am.
Father of one child says he received text from son who said the shooter ran into classroom and started shooting and then ran out the front door. Said he saw a "number of students on stretchers" when he arrived at the school with one "taken out on Life Flight".
Two more Life Flight helicopters are touching down at the High School. One Life Flight has left. Three now on standby at the High School. School is still on lock down.
