worth highlighting that this lawyer is a holdover from the obama admin who’s been arguing this shit for years, which is a good illustration that there’s a certain nonpartisan class of cruel people just drawn to civil servant work that lets them shoot dogs & ticket lemonade stands

if there *were* in fact a crisis the legal position of the USG would instead be “we agree that children sleeping on concrete is cruel and unacceptable but we’re financially tapped out” - instead their position indicates the exact opposite.
this is such an important point I’ve gotta make it three different times: they aren’t in court arguing for financial relief to provide children soap and blankets - they’re in court arguing that DENYING CHILDREN SOAP AND BLANKETS IS AWESOME
