We are at Christ College where we will be organising a monthly talk series called #Sambhashane. Today's speaker is Dr Joyojeet Pal (@joyopal) is talking about how politicians in India are using social media.
@joyopal and his team have collected data of tweets if approx 18000 politicians to understand how Twitter is being used by politicians.
A little peek into the methodology. 
His study shows that usage of Hindi on Twitter is increasing by politicians in Hindi speaking states. In the non-Hindi speaking states, it's English. With an exception of Tamil Nadu where the usage of Tamil and English is more or less equal.
He also reflects on how social media is changing the way elections are being conducted in India. Sample this: social media has changed the cost spent on bamboo! The amount spent on erecting a pandal/stage.
He also charts the building of brand Narendra Modi on social media.
His study finds that insulting is the most effective (as compared to the non-insults) way of political outreach.
He finally goes into the role of politicians using Bollywood to shape their political narrative on the eve of the 2019 elections. #Samnhashane
