It has always seemed that if you want to go into politics you should get a law degree but I have always thought that the best experience for politics is working as a server or bartender.
1. It matters that you find a way to get along with two groups, the customers and the back of house, but ultimately your obligation is to the public
2. You're going to have to tell people things they don't want to hear sometimes, so you need to be prepared with other solutions
3. It's difficult and exhausting and you learn exactly how much your body can handle before you have to pause and regroup
4. Extreme time management skills!
5. Your day can go from calm to crisis in a minute and you have to be able to respond quickly and thoughtfully
6. You often have to wear something you don't really like
7. Strangers know your name and shout it at you a lot, expecting you to respond to them immediately no matter what else you're doing
8. Some of your coworkers really suck (some are awesome)
9. Some days you get a free meal
