If Hollywood really wanted to troll the Chinese government they'd do a faithful mega-budget production of The Water Margin and send censors and commentators into a hermeneutic breakdown.

The reason is that the theme is heroic Robin Hood-style outlaws outwitting and rebelling against corrupt government officials.

Not a subject calculated to "promote social stability"!
The Gang of Four's view was that the outlaws weren't radical enough. I'd imagine the current government's view would be that they were too radical.
