No one could have predicted this!
Except maybe... anyone who has ever walked anywhere?????
I am going to thread SO HARD under this tweet! (...soon)
therecord.com/news-story/949…
Conestoga @rideIONrt Station is missing staircases to have more direct access to the bus station #wrLRT
Northfield @rideIONrt Station has you cross the tracks FOUR times to go west. It should have a direct west exit (green, or perhaps up to to street first)
Northfield @rideIONrt Station has no south escape route. If you are being accosted on the platform, you can be cornered. #wrLRT
R&T Park @rideIONrt Station connects directly to the Laurel *Trail* but requires bikes to run a gauntlet down the platform to access Philip St.
(Oh but they've put mats on the tracks to make a level surface that is VERY inviting to bike on)
University of Waterloo @rideIONrt Station access to E5 and the Plaza invites a short walk down the ballast to avoid backtracking. Should have had mid-track access direct to this crossing. #wrLRT
*Complain Break*
Waterloo Park @rideIONrt Station?
You aced it! Love it! Access from all ends in all directions.

Gotta go home, will return...
Willis Way @rideIONrt Station imagines you will take HUGE walking detours to get to the NAMESAKE road! You honestly couldn't put a crosswalk here?? #wrLRT
*Complain Break*
Allen @rideIONrt Station is also perfect. Direct access to both Allen and John crosswalks! Proving they can do short paths in the centre of the tracks. (despite never doing them anywhere else in the system) #wrLRT
Grand River Hospital @rideIONrt Station, ignoring Allen's design, has NO connection to the Mt Hope crosswalk despite plenty of space between the tracks.
Central @rideIONrt Station is generally okay, but has some REALLY weird things around it.
1) The Pharmacy Wall - a retaining wall holding up a retaining wall
2) The Crescent - an absurdly wide turn radius for cars means the pedestrian corner island is absurdly narrow
*Compliment Break*
City Hall @rideIONrt Station blends seamlessly into the sidewalk, but still has space to walk around behind it. The crosswalks aren't set far back for a huge turning radius either. This is a nearly perfect tight urban station.
(Develop the parking lot plz)
Frederick @rideIONrt Station
Again! A station on a tight urban block that could, but doesn't, connect both sides! Duke St is right there! You have half a width of a sidewalk already! #wrLRT
Borden @rideIONrt Station is already 30m away from the intersection. When we start running double LRTs, it's going to be a long walk (100m) from the far end, and very tempting to cross the street if your destination is to the north. This could use a north crosswalk.
Mill @rideIONrt Station
Like Northfield, missing an exit to the south. One entrance/exit is not a good experience if it's late at night, and rowdy drunks are stumbling out of Concordia Club
...Does it seem like it should just be 20m closer to Ottawa St?
Block Line @rideIONrt Station is another that (like R&T) routes everyone down the platform and (like Northfield, UW, Willis) requires you to backtrack and cross tracks multiple times instead of giving a mid-track path.
Problem 1 will be solved when (if) Vierra Condos are built
And here's the time to mention the complete consultation and conditions-on-the-ground failure that left Traynor-Vanier cut off.
A topic close to my heart: tritag.ca/blog/2016/08/1…
Fairway @rideIONrt Station currently has a terrible connection to the new bus mall, but thankfully, they plan on fixing that already. It's in the drawings for the bus terminal.
Beg Buttons at any station-adjacemt crosswalk is an insult to every rider.
Well that's dumb. Last time I was there (before service began) the straight sidewalk was open.
It felt very good to get out those frustrations.
Some of these issues have been apparent since public drawings in 2013/14. Others were surprises as they poured the concrete!
*Bonus*
Maybe they had to phone in some station designs, because everyone was working on maintaining not one, not two, but THREE accesses (one emergency only, but still counts) to this parking lot at Queen @rideIONrt Station.
