Trump just confirmed he wants the info for the Evenwel move: to try to draw voter eligible (rather than all-person) districts: which would undermine Hispanic (and Democratic) voting power.
Barr just lied, saying there is no question the Administration would have won, and they just ran out of time.

But despite Barr's lies, the Trump cave on the citizenship question on the census is a victory for the rule of law. Trump did not prompt a constitutional crisis by ignoring court orders and rejecting judicial review. This is the HEADLINE people.
The other headline: the Administration LIED by saying the information was needed to help enforce the Voting Rights Act to help Hispanics.

One wonders if things would have come out differently if we did not get Hofeller hard drives, which demonstrated that adding this question was a means of boosting white voting power, as I explained here @slate: slate.com/news-and-polit… That memo may have pushed Roberts over edge
