Trump refers to "the great state of Pennsylvania," then says, "Some people would say 'Commonwealth,'" then adds, "I'll call it: both."
Trump bashes the "fake news" for suggesting that lots of people might not show up to his Salute to America. He notes that people showed up even though it was raining. (This is a speech on the USMCA.)
Trump says he talked to a pilot, "he looked like Central Casting - Tom Cruise but maybe better. A little taller and a little stronger. And I said, 'So tell me how good is the F-35 compared to other planes, enemy craft?' He said, 'Well, they have a problem. They can't see it.'
Trump is touting his cuts to regulations, low unemployment and other economic accomplishments. He says, "What we did was so crazy. We helped other countries, we never thought about our own country. We lost the magic. We've gotten it back...greater than ever before."
Trump: "Millions and millions of jobs were lost during, I call them, the stupid years. But now we're back into the really smart years. We had the smart years, now we're the really smart years. They were the stupid years."
Trump repeats his usual inaccurate description of Obama's "magic wand" comments, wrongly saying his administration said all manufacturing was gone. Obama said at a 2016 PBS event that some jobs were gone, but he simultaneously boasted about how many were being created.
Trump on immigration: "Our laws are so bad, our military can't do a damn thing. We have the greatest military in the world, but between catch and release..." (He doesn't finish the sentence.)
Trump reads from his text that almost 1 in 5 auto jobs were lost under NAFTA, then says, "I think that's a wrong number. I think it's worse than that." He frequently casts doubt on the numbers he has just recited.
Sir Alert: Trump says he asked Sonny Perdue what China's biggest year of agricultural purchases was, "And he said 16 billion dollars, sir," and so he decided to give farmers $16 billion in aid. It was $29.6 billion in 2014, according to US Department of Agriculture figures.
As always, almost nothing Trump says in a Sir story is true.
It's not exactly true to say the USMCA requires 75% of all cars to be made in North America. That's how much needs to be made here for tariff-free treatment. Companies can manufacture abroad and just pay the standard tariff, which will be cheaper in many cases.
Trump: "People love Canada, I love Canada, but there were few countries that took advantage of us more than Canada."
Trump cites Canada's high (300%ish) milk tariffs without saying they are only milk tariffs -- he suggests they are standard Canadian tariffs on US agricultural products. They aren't. Dairy and poultry are treated differently than basically everything else.
Trump says the US is "respected again," explaining: "We were laughed at, we were scoffed at, we were liked - why shouldn't we be liked? We were a patsy."
Trump: "Our steel companies are coming back so strongly." Some companies are doing better than others, but a story on how the US industry is doing poorly: cnn.com/2019/06/19/bus…
Trump has concluded. A pretty short speech with a high dishonesty quotient.
