Understand that when Trump attacks the American legitimacy of ppl based on race he attacks our constitutional order? The first line of the 14th amendment guarantees citizenship to “all person born or naturalized” in this country. We fought a Civil War for this guarantee.
The point was to ensure that Black ppl former slave and free would not be denied citizenship and countered “back to Africa” proponents would have denied Blacks citizenship in the country of their birth. Birthright citizenship lies at the heart of American-ness.
151 years later a President tells American born congresswomen (Black, Puerto Rican, Palestinian-American) to “go back” to the country they came from? When is enough enough?
And those pointing out that one of the four Congresswomen attacked by the President was not born in this country, a naturalized citizen is an American with the full right to speak candidly about injustice and to share her views about her country.
