Why would we even bother to have a First Amendment if the guiding American principle was that people who criticize policies of the govt should leave? It's really critical that we start talking about the anti-Constitution framework Donald Trump advances.
The first line of the 14th Amendment, granting citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States" makes challenging the American-ness of these Congresswomen contrary to the Constitution. We fought an entire Civil War for that guarantee.
When the President so cavalierly disparages the spirit and power of that guarantee, it reveals his constitutional vision. This is not just partisan politics, and it's past time to stop ignoring this. Racism is its own dangerous and potentially fatal virus in our republic.
There are deep constitutional implications when the President attempts to undermine and discredit the words and intentions of the Constitution that were specifically designed to protect the marginalized and unpopular, Black people and their descendants, naturalized citizens.
