This bothers people.

Trump says something bad.
Media: “We demand every R condemn him or be responsible!”
R’s condemn him
Media: “not enough!”

Dem says something bad
Media: *crickets* followed by “Republicans pounced” followed by “Dems say these weee unfair partisan attacks”
You realize how much harder you make it for people to do the right thing by making this a political game where the two sides are held to completely different standards?

Also, makes it obvious that you don’t care about the actual issue.
I mean how does Ilhan Omar get away with complaining about dual loyalty accusations against other Americans without anyone in the press noting the double standard?

Doesn’t mean people shouldn’t call out Trump or hold themselves to a higher standard, but not how politics work. Most people won’t sign up for a different standard than their opponents. When supposed arbiters impose that, it costs them credibility and eliminates all standards.
I want that to stop. No reason we should normalize Trump, Omar, Tlaib, or King. Our politics and society should be better than that. But it won’t be as long as this game continues and standards only become relevant based on the letter next to the politician’s name.
And I’ll continue to call out Trump, Republicans, and Dems because I don’t do it for anyone else, but I won’t pretend not to notice what is leading to the deteriorating standards and why so many others choose silence or not to play the game.
